30 Characters in November - week 1

Howdy fellow Insomniac Sketchers! I haven't been around in a while, but my sketchbook's bout to be overflowing as I'm diving into the whole 30 characters in 30 days thing, following the lead of ISS founder Melissa Dow. While Mel's characters are all polished illustrations (check out her FB gallery), my chicken-scratch ditties will feel right at home on the ole sketch blog. Here's my first 6...

-Casey

1. Bob the necromancer
2. Frank the spacemarine
3. Cecil the barbarian

4. Edna the witch
5. Chad the zombie
6. Lou the pirate

October drawings - Veronika Marosy

Hey Everyone,
It's been a little silent here lately, so i thought i would share some work with you.
This first one is a work in progress. I am making a series of these funny and cute animals, and i call them the Nosy Beasts. This particular one became a favourite of mine :) and i also wrote a little background story for it. You can read that here.

This other one is a little sketch for a TV station. They wanted a new animal friend for their children's show. This project is currently on hold, because i'm working on some short animations for them, but will be resumed probably at the end of this year. There are still some changes i need to make :)
Have a nice week guys!

Another life drawing session sketch. One more to go, a "Mountain Man".
See the finished painting here. I switched back to watercolor and will give gouache another try another time.

June? When did that happen?

Hey guys, so I totally didn't get a sketch posted every day as planned. Hopefully it'll serve as a lesson in time management, hopefully.

Maybe this will make up for it, a bit? It took a long time if that counts haha

Liz Wong - July

A couple of works in progress for an illustration class I'm taking. As you can see, we are working on a story about a rabbit.

Some more sketches - Laura

Hi everyone! I didn't make my quota...by any stretch! But it was good to practice working in felt pen with no planning in pencil first. I'll post some more sketches when they appear! Here's a couple more from June, for July I'm going to be a little more realistic and post at least one a week. I can SURELY manage that ;)

Liz Wong - July

For some reason I recently became obsessed with drawing legs and feet; and apparently decided to draw them all on one piece of paper. Then I drew some dancers.

Liz Wong - June #5 - 7

I like to draw heads. A lot.

I've actually done a lot of sketches in June, but can't post most of them since they are for a not-yet-complete illustration job...

June Insomnia Sketches | Brian Bowes

Hey All,

I wanted to share some of the sketches that I've been up to. Initially I was thinking about the "one sketch a week" option for June, but I ended up doing more than that. So, there will be more to come.

Due to technical difficulties, this is my first post for June (and it's what day again....) anyway, here is a sampler of what has been going on in my sketchbooks these days.

These first drawings at the top here are from a day trip that some friends and I did to an animal sanctuary. These two drawings were the ones that I liked from all that were made there. While I am developing a pension for badgers, I have to admit that the "Black Crowned Night Heron" has a way cooler name. He also has piercing red eyes, which I don't mind saying are a bit disconcerting as he stares into your soul while you're trying to make a drawing.

In a different vein, I've been working out some sketches which are pretty much like Saturday morning cartoons for the 8 year old that lives inside me. So, in a Ray Harryhausen-esque way, we have the "Cyclops vs. the Air Ship."

Followed by "Admiral Ackbar's cousin, The Coral with Eyes, and The Hive" coming soon to a theater near you...

So, til next time,
Cheers,
Brian

Late start

Hey Everyone!
Sorry for the delay for this month. I've been abroad in the first half of june and since i'm back, i'm trying to catch up with all my work.
I did do some sketching in the meanwhile! :D So not everything is lost for the month ;)
These are mainly quick character sketches.

I love seeing the variety of your drawings! They are mind blowing!

Another Update!

I wanted to try something different, so instead of just doing larger single illustrations I'm going to try to make a series of characters on Post-Its based on personalities :) Most being based of interesting people I've met, friends, family, or sometimes just random ideas.

Liz Wong - June #4

Book 8 - in which Harry, Ron and Hermione decide to save the world by rockin' it. I wonder what their band would be named?

Liz Wong - June #3

This one is admittedly quite odd...

Melissa Dow - Pg 0

Just wanted to apologize to you guys for my lack of posting this month. Been super busy, but after this weekend things should be back to 'normal', and I can sit down and get some sketching done at last.

The sketches this month look so AMAZING!

Carry on!

June Sketches 1 & 2 - Laura Nuttall

Ponytail Girl

Maggie The Cat

Hi everyone! I'm lagging behind a bit, but am aiming to get a sketch a day done this month. I've also set myself the challenge of only using pen so I have to think harder about getting things right first time, and working only on a post card size piece of card. So here's the first two! The Ponytail Girl is a doodle I've been doing for years. The second is inspired by 'Maggie The Cat' from 'Cat On A Hot Tin Roof' - I watched this film for the first time last weekend and was mesmerised by Elizabeth Taylor...stunning.
