Liz Wong - June #5 - 7

I like to draw heads. A lot.

I've actually done a lot of sketches in June, but can't post most of them since they are for a not-yet-complete illustration job...

June Insomnia Sketches | Brian Bowes

Hey All,

I wanted to share some of the sketches that I've been up to. Initially I was thinking about the "one sketch a week" option for June, but I ended up doing more than that. So, there will be more to come.

Due to technical difficulties, this is my first post for June (and it's what day again....) anyway, here is a sampler of what has been going on in my sketchbooks these days.

These first drawings at the top here are from a day trip that some friends and I did to an animal sanctuary. These two drawings were the ones that I liked from all that were made there. While I am developing a pension for badgers, I have to admit that the "Black Crowned Night Heron" has a way cooler name. He also has piercing red eyes, which I don't mind saying are a bit disconcerting as he stares into your soul while you're trying to make a drawing.

In a different vein, I've been working out some sketches which are pretty much like Saturday morning cartoons for the 8 year old that lives inside me. So, in a Ray Harryhausen-esque way, we have the "Cyclops vs. the Air Ship."

Followed by "Admiral Ackbar's cousin, The Coral with Eyes, and The Hive" coming soon to a theater near you...

So, til next time,
Cheers,
Brian

Late start

Hey Everyone!
Sorry for the delay for this month. I've been abroad in the first half of june and since i'm back, i'm trying to catch up with all my work.
I did do some sketching in the meanwhile! :D So not everything is lost for the month ;)
These are mainly quick character sketches.

I love seeing the variety of your drawings! They are mind blowing!

Another Update!

I wanted to try something different, so instead of just doing larger single illustrations I'm going to try to make a series of characters on Post-Its based on personalities :) Most being based of interesting people I've met, friends, family, or sometimes just random ideas.

Liz Wong - June #4

Book 8 - in which Harry, Ron and Hermione decide to save the world by rockin' it. I wonder what their band would be named?

Liz Wong - June #3

This one is admittedly quite odd...

Melissa Dow - Pg 0

Just wanted to apologize to you guys for my lack of posting this month. Been super busy, but after this weekend things should be back to 'normal', and I can sit down and get some sketching done at last.

The sketches this month look so AMAZING!

Carry on!

June Sketches 1 & 2 - Laura Nuttall

Ponytail Girl

Maggie The Cat

Hi everyone! I'm lagging behind a bit, but am aiming to get a sketch a day done this month. I've also set myself the challenge of only using pen so I have to think harder about getting things right first time, and working only on a post card size piece of card. So here's the first two! The Ponytail Girl is a doodle I've been doing for years. The second is inspired by 'Maggie The Cat' from 'Cat On A Hot Tin Roof' - I watched this film for the first time last weekend and was mesmerised by Elizabeth Taylor...stunning.

The June Challenge is on!

Liz got us kicked off for June, awesome!

For June, we will be doing the same Challenge format as May.

Please pick one of the following:

A) - A Sketch Every Day - 30 sketches for the month of June

B) - A Sketch Ever Other Day - 15 sketches for the month of June

C) - A Sketch Every Week - 4 sketches for the month of June

Remember, you don't have to literally do one every day, every other, etc. It's really just the final number that's important to shoot for (I often do them in waves).

Pick whichever you think is going to fit your schedule best, and if you end up doing more, that's great!

If you'd like to state which Challenge you are doing, and if you are setting any special goals for yourself, that would be great.

I will be doing challenge C this month, because it's going to be a crazy one for me. Also, because I still have 4 sketches to make up for May, I will be doing those first (so, I guess I am doing 9).

The Moleskine didn't totally groove with me last month (mostly too small, and too slick feeling). So I am going to work on a larger 11 x 14 sketchbook, made specifically by COPIC to be used with ink and markers. Really looking forward to working in it. I definitely want to keep working with the COPICS (I am taking my COPIC Certification class near the end of the month), so that will be a good challenge for me.

Can't wait to see what you guys do this month!
